How To Write Copy For A Website (Video Summary)

  1. Put The Most Relevant Information Above The Fold

This is the foundation for all good copywriting. Even more so with a website because most people will skim and look at your website for a few seconds. If it throws them off or they don’t like it then they will just exit. Compared to getting the mail or reading an ad on a magazine, it is so easy for them to mouse over the X button and click out.

List out benefits The number one reason why they want to join your site ex. Marketing blog → marketing You can try having an engaging video or picture Ecommerce store - Having the latest sale

  1. Be A Problem Solver

I think the #1 reason why people search on Google is that they have a question and they want more information OR they want a solution to a problem. For example, if someone types in “how to stop stomach cramps…” or… “How To Train Your Dog”

They are looking for specific problems or information to help them solve a problem

  1. Research Your Keywords But Focus On SEO Second

I say SEO second because you should focus on your copy and making sure that whatever you put down is easy for the reader to read through and makes him want to read the next sentence.

For example, if your keyword is copywriting… you may not want to keep putting copywriting and instead put the word “copy” because it flows smoother even if it works your SEO juice a little bit.

It’s better to write for the reader’s experience than keyword stuffing.

SEO is just like growing a tree. It’s not going to help at all in the beginning. But you are going to be planting the foundation for SEO and as time goes on, just like your tree goes more people will start heading to your website.

Now to do keyword research you can Check out the suggestion box on Google Go On Ubersuggest and type in a keyword. Go on Google Adwords and see the frequency and difficulty of that keyword

  1. Format Correctly With The Proper Headings

Everyone knows that when you start putting headings and sub-headlines into your writing it makes it a lot easier to read.

Compare this block of text vs this block of text.

Now what people don’t know is that you want to correctly organize your info with the proper H2, H3, H4 headings because that helps Google understand your information better.

When they understand your content better it helps them organize the information better and helps you target more relevant people to check out your website or blog.

  1. Link to other websites

This applies mainly when you are writing a blog post but linking out to other websites is a great way to show off your readers that you took in some work to put in the effort to check out things. It’s a way to contact the person to share your article Makes your blog post look more legit Helps search engines understand your content better

  1. Consider Using A Mobile Reader To Check Your Work

So many people are using phones nowadays to check out on Google that it is doubly important to make sure the formatting and speed work well on your phone. You can check with Google Page Speed Insights for your website speed You can check on your phone.

  1. You want to make it really easy for them to take action The number one reason for any website in my personal belief is for them to take action of some sort. Monetary reasons (News website → read more news → subscribe) Like their content so much upgrade to premium Bring awareness to the charity Bring awareness for something

Drive them to an email list, to your course, something that you can do with that relationship later and see if it can build into something.

  1. Be Your Self

You are a unique human being with their own thoughts and behavior. You have your own opinions and your own thoughts. When you take a stance with certain things you are going to notice that you are going to be polarizing people which is a good thing. It will make the people who support you and your work find a deeper connection with you and the people who don’t really like your work is normal because haters gonna hate.
